This page captures the initial draft of recommended badges for those that participate in the LFN community. These badges are intended as publicly visible recognition of participation to recognize the community and encourage further participation.
General information for Badges must include:
- Badge Name
- Description
- Criteria for badge – must be quantifiable/automatable and easy for staff to generate the badges
NOTE: all project-level badges should be branded for that project
Contributor Badge (per Project/Community)
The LFN Contributor badge recognizes those individuals who have contributed in some way to one of the LFN projects within the past year. This could include code contributions, documentation contributions, testing, etc.
Criteria: Use each community's definition of a contributor (TSC voting criteria per the committer representative discussions).
Committer Badge (per Project/Community)
The LFN Committer badges recognizes those individuals who have achieved committer status on an LFN project within the past year. This recognition acknowledges the efforts of those committers in dedicating their time & skills to these projects and displaying their personal eminence.
Criteria: Committer status within an LFN project

LFN Leader Badge
The LFN Leader badge recognizes those individuals who have played a leadership role in LFN or one of the LFN projects within the past year. Such roles include PTLs for projects, TSC members, project subcommittee leaders, LFN-wide committee members (TAC, MAC, SPC, LFN Governing Board).
Criteria: Project PTL, TSC member, Subcommittee leader for an LFN Project (how to determine what qualifies?), TAC/MAC/SPC/Gov Board members

LFN Mentee Badge
The LFN Mentee badge recognizes those individuals who have completed a project within the LFN Mentorship Program. These programs offer a structured hands-on learning opportunity for new developers who may otherwise lack the opportunity to gain exposure to open source software development and entry to the LFN projects' technical communities. This badge acknowledges their successful contributions to the LFN
Criteria: Successful completion of an LFN Mentorship Project
LFN Mentor Badge
The LFN Mentor badge recognizes those individuals who have committed themselves to mentoring one or more new developers through the LFN Mentorship Program. This badge acknowledges that the mentor has gone above-and-beyond in strengthening the LFN communities while also growing new talent.
Criteria: Proposing an LFN Mentorship Project & acting as mentor through its completion
