      • New Profile, is it new profile or re-active the Compute intensive "https://github.com/cntt-n/CNTT/issues/1569"  – Need to quantify how to handle the interface between the HW and the architecture.  Karim will get more information on the Certification programs.  as commented on the issue, the new edge profile should be technology-independent, we aim at several edge use-cases, and we can have FPGAs, GPUs,, etc. as accelerators... Can we make this Profile have a mandatory HW component, that is what makes it the distinguishing factor. Agreed that we DO need a new profile with a mandatory HW component. 
        • DU processes RLC, MAC and Hi-PHY layer. For Hi-PHY processing, FPGA accelerators are used for enhancing performance. If used, the FPGA is used for FEC offload at L1. For 5G NR, PHY is offloaded to the FPGA

  • Latency is the main issue, the why FPGA is mandated in Fronthaul ( 50-100 usec /tested) , in the mid-haul in msec
  • List down all function that required for FPGA ( vRAN use case )

  • CNTT can have FPGA in the transition period without obligation toward the operator to use it

  •  for the new profile: the name "Edge profile" , covers many uses cases over the edge starting with vRAN
  • For RA01 & RA02 , it will not new Arch, it will be tweaking of the normal arch to be fit at the edge and can be covered in subchapter/chapter in RA01&RA02
