Project Name

Before we can develop the full brand concept for this new project, we need finalize a new name that also reflects the elements listed below (particularly “Perception” and “Magnetic Idea”).

Parameters:

  • No acronyms
  • Nothing “Open”
  • Nothing that’s a literal description of the work
  • No use of the word "Edge"
  • Evocative, simple, memorable

Theme Thought Starters:

  • Historical
  • Mythical
  • Symbolic
  • Team Sports (Who do you play for?)
  • Water Theme (and/or water deities): Ties into the traditional OPNFV releases using rivers, also meant to symbolize strength via flexibility / adaptability.
  • Confluence of rivers
  • Silk Road/Blends of Culture/Melange

Bruce Lee Quote: “Don't get set into one form, adapt it and build your own, and let it grow, be like water. Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless — like water. Now you put water in a cup, it becomes the cup; You put water into a bottle it becomes the bottle; You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot.”

List of Deities Here:

  • Anuket: Anuket was the ancient Egyptian goddess of the cataracts of the Nile and Lower Nubia in general, worshipped especially at Elephantine near the First Cataract. Symbols: Bow, arrows, gazelle, ostrich feather
  • Hapi: God of the annual flooding of the Nile (By harnessing the floodwaters, Egyptians were able to take something chaotic and tame it and build a civilization from it)
  • Janus: Shows 2 entities as one.
  • Grannus: Celtic deity associated with thermal springs and spas, associated with the concept of gleaming or shining
  • Ascionna: Gallo-Roman water goddess, associated with the Orleans region of France
  • Lir: Irish/Welsh god of the sea
  • Sequana: Goddess of the River Seine, healer of sickness
  • Sirona: Celtic goddess associated with healing springs
  • Danu: Celtic Mother of the gods, associated with streams and flowing water
  • Neptune: Roman god of fresh water and the sea
  • Condatis: In Celtic mythology, Condatis ("waters meet") was a deity worshipped primarily in northern Britain but also in Gaul.[1] He was associated with the confluences of riversIn Roman times he was equated with Mars, probably in his healing function. The association with the confluence of waters would tend to link this deity with the prevalent Celtic cult of thermal waters rather than solely with war.

The name Condatis is derived from condate and means 'God of the Confluence'. BOBM: This seems a really appropriate one. A healing confluence of workstreams...

  • Brizo – Greek Goddess of Sailors (could do something related to sailors or seafaring, as much of what we're doing in technology transformation is going out into the unknown.)
  • Anahita – Persian Goddess of water, healing, and wisdom
  • Mazu – Chinese sea goddess, protector of fishermen and sailors

Butterfly Theme: Ties into transformational narrative of OPNFV. Stages: Egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, butterfly.

  • The name "chrysalis" might work? Each release could be a new butterfly species.
  • We could also use a Latin name for a butterfly species as the project name
    • Asiona (a genus of moths)
    • Lepidoptera (the order to which butterflies and moths belong)
    • Hesperidae – family of fast-flying "skipper" butterflies
    • Aguna – one of the genus of skipper butterflies
    • Astraptes – one of the genus of skipper butterflies
    • Papilio – one of the swallowtail butterflies

Team Sports

  • Harpastum: ancient ball game played in the Roman Empire
  • Phaininda: Greek version of the above
  • Cuju or T'su-chu – ancient Chinese game, though to be the earliest version of football
  • Pokolpok – Ancient Meso American ballgame, similar to racquetball
  • Jai Alai- a sport involving a ball bounced off walls accelerated by a hand-held wicker device (cesta)
  • Cesta - the accelerator of a Jai Alai ball (curved hand-held device)
